Architectural Design for Rural Plots and Small Developments

With a number of small clusters of residential plots coming forward across rural Aberdeenshire, careful site planning and orientation play a key role in how a countryside home is lived in and enjoyed over time.

Key Notes

Rural Executive Home

First floor livingroom area with dramatic views.

Apex glazing with vaulted ceiling.

Open-plan living spaces.

Minimalist pallet for a modern aesthetic.

Solar PV

To maximise views, natural light and privacy within an evolving rural setting, a key challenge was positioning the main living space to capture uninterrupted views. This was addressed through careful orientation and window placement, alongside the introduction of a first-floor living area.

Vaulted ceilings and apex glazing create a bright, open space, allowing natural light to move through the home while strengthening the connection to the surrounding landscape.

Internally, the layout has been designed to create a strong sense of space and flow, with open-plan living areas that are both connected and clearly defined. A restrained material palette allows the architectural form and spatial quality to take precedence, supporting a clean, modern living interior. The design is supported by modern systems, including solar PV, contributing to long-term energy efficiency and performance.
